NoIR Filter 61 may be a better middle ground. These glare reduction fit over glasses with a light amber lens allows approximately 40% of visible light through, so it reduces brightness and glare without creating the very dark view of many specialty sunglasses.

These glare reduction fit-over glasses can be worn over many prescription eyeglasses and provide additional coverage along the sides and brow.

What does the light amber lens actually do?

Rather than simply making everything darker, the amber tint changes the way colors and contrast appear. Some wearers find amber lenses make edges, shapes and differences between light and dark areas easier to distinguish, particularly in hazy, overcast or moderately bright conditions.

Filter 61 is a 40% VLT lens, meaning it allows approximately 40% of visible light through.

When would I choose 40% VLT instead of a darker lens?

This filter makes sense when glare is bothersome but very dark sunglasses feel like too much.

Is this an extremely dark low-vision filter?

No. At 40% VLT, Filter 61 is considerably lighter than NoIR’s dark and extra-dark specialty filters.

If strong sunlight is your main concern or you require substantial light reduction, a darker filter may be more appropriate. Filter 61 is better suited to someone who wants moderate glare reduction with a lighter amber view.

Why choose amber instead of gray?

A gray lens generally keeps colors more neutral. Amber creates a warmer view and may make contrast more noticeable for some people.

The choice is largely personal. If maintaining neutral colors is most important, gray may be preferable. If glare reduction and enhanced visual separation are more important, amber may be worth trying.

Can I drive with these glasses?

The 40% VLT is much lighter than NoIR’s extra-dark filters, but amber lenses alter color appearance. Before using them for daytime driving, make sure you can clearly distinguish traffic lights, road signs and surrounding conditions.

They are not intended for night driving.
