For children who are bothered by bright light, migraine glasses for children with specialized tinted lenses may help make uncomfortable lighting easier to tolerate.
These NoIR migraine glasses for children give parents two Topaz lens choices:
● Light Topaz – NoIR 41 – 57% VLT
A lighter lens that allows approximately 57% of visible light through. NoIR specifically lists this filter for migraines, glare and contrast enhancement.
● Dark Topaz – NoIR 47 – 44% VLT
A darker Topaz lens that allows approximately 44% of visible light through, so it reduces more overall light than Light Topaz. NoIR lists this filter for several low-vision and light-management needs.
Both lenses are available in pediatric frames made for smaller faces.
The percentage simply tells you how much visible light comes through the lens.
You do not need to understand the technical measurement to choose between them. 57% is lighter meaning 57% of light gets through; 44% is darker meaning 44% of light get through.
Choose Light Topaz – when you want the lighter of the two lenses. Because more light passes through, it may be easier for everyday use when your child needs some light filtering without a noticeably darker view. These might work better for indoor conditions or when the light is not quite as bright.
NoIR specifically identifies NoIR 41 for migraines, making this the clearer choice when migraine-related light sensitivity is the reason you are shopping.
Choose Dark Topaz – when your child is more comfortable with a darker lens or needs greater overall light reduction. These might be best for brighter outside conditions or extreme light sensitivity.
There is no single tint that is best for every child. The goal is to find the lens that makes the child’s environment more comfortable without making it unnecessarily dark.
Children with migraine can have symptoms that look different from adult migraine. In addition to headache, children may experience:
Light sensitivity is a common migraine symptom in children.
Tinted glasses cannot diagnose migraine. If your child repeatedly experiences headaches, significant light sensitivity, nausea or other concerning symptoms, discuss them with your child’s pediatrician.</
